Looking but not really Seeing!

Have you ever looked and something you see every day and then all of a sudden you really SEE it, noticing something that has been there all along, a little detail or something unusual that you just didn't quite notice before?

Well today just a little while ago i was having yet another late lunch, drinking a Bru and looking out of the front window where the sun has come out and is shining on the tenements on the other side of the street and i notice how nice the stone carvings look under the windows, the bright sun casting really nice shadows.

Then i notice that the next window down has different carvings and the next different again.
I have lived in the street for 21 years since i was 8, i know that there are carvings under the windows they have always been there but i don't think that i ever really looked at them (if i noticed before i don't remember noticing!)
I have waked passed these and looked at them out of the living room window almost every day of my life!

The only sensible thing to do was to go out with my camera and have a look at all of the different designs and take photographs.

This one on the corner has been replaced at some point and has no carvings any more.

What I find interesting is that it is the kind of thing that I might notice when in an unfamiliar place, on holiday or visiting somewhere new, I have holiday photos of interesting fences, doorknobs, doors and lampposts but I have missed a lovely detail in my own street.

Funny, something that i see every day that has always been there, part of the landscape of my everyday life and one day a little detail pops out and i really see it. It makes me wonder what other surprises there are.

Journal Workshop

Make your own Journal at The Life Craft on great western Road on the 16th March with me Lucy. T-he full details can be found at www.thelifecraft.co.uk.

You could make a journal similar to this one, A5 in size, this one is my cupcake book that i take almost everywhere with me for all of my to-do lists and ideas.

The workshop will take you through all of the stages involved in making the journal, covering the boards, organising the pages and stitching. You are welcome to bring your own fabric or paper to cover the journal so that you know you will love it. (you don't want the fabric too thick!)

Textured paper works great for the cover of a book, i will bring some of this with me on the night.

These are journals from the first class, very happy with the results :)

Button Love

Not just button Love but button and ribbon love and love for That Crafty Fish, the wonderful lady with the buttons. Not only does Kirsty Fish sell the most wonderful buttons and ribbons in her shop Big Fish, you can find Kirsty's hand crafted goodies in Paper Fish, That Crafty Fish blog is superb if you are not following it yet you should be a lady who loves craft, thrift, life, shopping and sharing it with the rest of the world. An excellent read.

I Love Buttons

A day of free shipping accross all of the Kirsty's shops was too good to pass up so i went shopping.

A little something for me a PaperFish goodie bag.

It was soooooooo good, i felt like i deserved a treat, why? Why not!

Cool bookmark went straight into the book i am reading Stephen Kings Full Dark No Stars.

I am having a bit of a rhubarb thing at the moment, Rhubarb colours that is. I like rhubarb too, it always reminds me of being at my grandparents house and getting rhubarb straight out of the garden and sugar to dip it in, my Granda used to grow the most excellent rhubarb i have ever tasted. I'm sure it was from somewhere special but i can't remember where! (just like me!)
So pink and green buttons and matching pink and green ribbons, they are further down the page.

Kirsty's Buttons are always great quality and you get a fantastic selection of styles, shapes and sizes.

I also got spotty buttons, i have had these before and they, are almost done, it took me a long time to start to use them though, i just liked them so much and didnt want to part with them. They come in so many pretty colours.

Valentines at The Life Craft

The Life Craft Valentines market was on the 13th February. It was a fantastic day there were loads and loads of lovely goodies to be found on the stalls and scrummy cake from The Life Craft.

This was a little last minute for me and i had my other half helping me cut hearts out of comic pages from some vintage annuals so that i could make Valentine cards, I'm glad i did as the sold quite well. I also had him helping with some packaging for my new button packs, he's a wee gem, a tip for getting help from the man in your life Malteasers, chocolate or other favourite treat and work on a treat per task basis.

I didn't get the best photos, i made a classic error, i left the memory card in my computer and only had a 16mb card in the camera, you know one of those giant old ones. I have also missed someone out i am sorry, she was selling gorgeous ceramic jewellery, i don't know how i missed her table when taking the photos.

It was a great day with superb music delicious cake, yummy lunch from Naked Soup round the corner (well worth a visit if you are in the area) and we were all well looked after the whole day by Claire and Vonnie.

Nintendo 3DS @ the Lighthouse Glasgow

I went to the pre launch event for the Nintendo 3DS at the light house on Saturday.

Took this out the window while waiting and realised how low the battery was in my camera :(

Got a pleasent surprise with some live action Street Fighter and Resident Evil, i couldn't take a pic in the Resident Evil one as i was in the first section of our group to go through this and i didn't know it was coming and by the time i had picked myself up off the floor after Chriss shouting 'EVERYBODY DOWN EVERYBODY DOWN' I had a zombie grabbing at my leg!

There was a room full of 3DSs' with a variety of games for everyone to have a go at, i was very impressed with the 3Dness.
Look there i am, just to prove i was actually there i got the girl to take a piccy of me playing it, i was the only one in pink!

The one that really got my attention was the Augmented Reality game with the cards that you put on the table it made me want to look over the 3DS to see if there were really things popping out of the table. I couldn't take photos of that, you cant see the 3D in a photo so they wouldn't let you take photos of the screen.
Definitely an afternoon well spent, cant wait to see what they do with it next after that little taster.

I took this on the way home, i just loved the way the cloud looked at the top of the hill through the buildings, had to pull over and get out of the car for this one, was lucky to find a space.

Catching Up

I have fallen behind a little with blogging my photographs, these are from Sunday the 6th Feb there have been more photos since then, i hope to get those on here tomorrow, i know you are thinking aye right Lucy, but now that i have said it it might happen.

The day started with lucy and katy going for a look round say no to plastic and granny would be proud vintage/craft fairs and then going for lunch in Oran Mor, the lunch was yummmmmmmy and very good value. We had chips and .........

haggis balls we also had nachos but by the time i got my camera out they were half eaten and the pic looked terrible.

After a delicious lunch we headed across the road to the botanical gardens where we had just missed another craft fair so we went into the Kibble Palace.
First stop there was the room with the carnivorous plants, i didn't see and venus fly traps but there were some other amazing plants and a spider.
I love the super macro on my camera, i think it might be my favourite thing about my
Fuji S602z.

Again with the super macro, look at the detail, the hairs look a bit like loads of rows of teeth just waiting for an unsuspecting insect. the colours are great, that might be because i am going through a bit of a green and pink rhubarb phase at the moment and these fit in nicely with that, i have just received an order of ribbon and buttons from Big Fish with a load of these colours in it, they are gorgeous, piccys of that soon .

I found this beautiful and a little erie at the same time, too many horror movies perhaps!

The next room had lots of these plants in different colours, these may be inspiring a new project!

the sign said they were called Aeonium, i know this because the sign was in one of the pictures, i would have never remembered that.

I say it again I Love Super Macro!

Tried to take a photograph of the gold fish, while trying to get a good photo i got a great sense of how amazing the brain and eyes are. The camera took a photo of the water the way it sees it, i couldn't get a good shot of the fish the way i could see them, i could focus in on the fish and not the reflection on the water and see the fish as clear as day (as clear as you could in that water) but the camer focused on it all!
Anyway, i really like this one, the colour and shapes of fish and the reflections look really good too.

We decided to walk home along the Kelvin walkway, seemed like the best option for more piccys.
Not sure what these ducks are, not the normal ducks i have seen in the past here!

Katy in the tunnel, you get a great echo in here but you cant catch that on camera.

Just Looked Out The Window...

I was going to blog about some pictures i took in the botanic gardens on Sunday, but i just looked out my window and saw this, it didn't last long but it was beautiful.
Hanging out of the window i snapped away before it was gone.

The colours were just gorgeous, it didn't last long, it is all just a deep shade of blue now. Funny how things can change so quickly, and such a beautiful sight lasted just a few minutes, i feel lucky to have caught it.

M is for Monthly Challenge

After seeing this M i think i may now have to look for an O, N, T and H.

A great way to start the day Breakfast Pie, leftover apple and blackberry pie form desert the night before, yummy. It looked so yummy i thought it deserved to be photographed, i did have to have a piece before getting my camera, i'm sure you understand.

Yesterday after having lunch with a friend i decided to walk home, having my cameras with me for the challenge i thought it might be a good idea! The batteries died in my big camera as soon as i turned it on so, on to my pocket camera, its not so good at taking photos in the dark, i got some interesting shots though.

I love these i think they are great.

I think my favourite of the day.

I really like these two, i was having a bit of a mess around with the camera settings, with my pocket camera i usually just point and shoot but night time just doesn't agree with it!

One Month Challenge

I have decided to take on a one month challenge. What is my challenge? I will be taking my camera everywhere with me in the hope to catch those 'I wish I had my camera with me' moments. Why am i doing this? well my sister Katy decided to set herself this as a One Month Project for January, to fill an album and to learn more. I really liked the idea so now i have set myself the challenge of doing one too. I will be sharing my progress here on my blog, i will also be posting my photos on Flickr and some to facebook.

Today had been the first day i have really been out and about, here are today's photos...

It was a miserable wet, very wet day today but i still got some good images, i think!

This is the roof of the theatre at Mugdock country park and the roofs of some of the buildings round the courtyard.

This was my favourite piccy of the day, it was what this challenge is all about. As we left the park today, just as we were about to go through the door i noticed something on the bottom of the door, a little birdie was clinging to the bottom of the door. It let me get really close to it, it may have been tired or stressed that it had found itself inside! But i was so happy that i had my camera with me, i got such a close up. Challenge working!

Journal Workshop

A while back the very lovely Vonnie owner of The Life Craft on Great Western Road Glasgow asked me if i would like to run a journal making workshop, I jumped at the chance of course!

The workshop was designed so that each person would make a hand stitched journal; making the covers, organising pages and stitching the book. A set of instructions were also included in the class, I find it helpful to have a reminder for the next time i want to try something after i have been to a workshop.

The first workshop was small just 2 people which was good not too overwhelming for the first one, gave me the chance to keep myself organised and make sure i didn't miss any steps.

All went well, the padded fabric covers turned out great.

Two happy customer and one relieved Lucy, just happy that everything went well and the results were so good and everyone was happy.

If you are in Glasgow and haven't been to The Life Craft yet it is well worth a visit, the staff are great, there is always good cake and if you happn to knit or crochet then the yarn ohhhhhhh the yarn.

Journal Making Class

If you are a stationery lover this might be just the thing for you, the very kind folks at The Life Craft on Great Western Road Glasgow have asked me to do a make your own journal class and obviously i jumped at the chance. I am really excited about it, the class will teach you all of the stages in making a fabric covered hand stitched journal, the journal made in the class will be A5 sized and you can bring your own fabric so you know you will end up with something you love.

Firework Surprise

This year for Guy Fawks night I went to the Fireworks display at Glasgow Green with Katy (my sister) and Karen (my friend) is has been years since i went to the park to watch the display so this felt like quite a treat. I love fireworks night, the smell of the smoke and fireworks, the foggy atmosphere and the noise. I remember going to the park to watch the fireworks as a kid with my Mum, Dad and Katy with a little bag of nuts and sweets left from my Halloween haul.
I remembered to take my camera but the battery died some time before the finale :( when i got home and took a look at the photos i was so surprised to find some really interesting shots.

Soda Stream

I am now the proud owner of a SodaStream :-) thanks to Vonnie of Blotted Copy Book. When I got the message to say I had won I was so excited, I remember friends of mine having Soda Stream machines when i was a kid and they seemed like loads of fun!
As soon as it arrived I had to get it open and have a go.

Here it is and.....

here is the first bottle and glass of juice.

I can confirm that using the Soda Stream is loads of fun, it is really satisfying pushing the button to make the bubbles, i had to have a look on the SodaStream website to see what other flavours there are and i think i will be going for the My Water flavour essence next time.

October Week

Make a small 10cm fused glass tile, your tile will be taken away and fused for you to collect at a later date, or have it posted to you.

Tuesday 12th October 2pm - 4pm Design your own Badge £1.00- £1.50 depending on size
Just turn up and join in, for all ages, if you can stick a sticker or make a mark with a pencil this is for you, adults welcome too!
Have your design turned into a badge, there will be plain paper, patterned paper, pens, pencils and stickers. Let your creativity and imagination run away with you.
edit: i have bought some orange, green and red paper for some spooky halloween options, pumpkins, monsters, ghosta and devils.

Website Re-Launch and FREE Postage

Lucy Jackson Designs has gone through some changes, a bit of a re-design.

Other than the banner and logo change, the shop has had a revamp too. I have taken advantage of the that Etsy offer and made the shops on my website my Etsy shops.

The shop is split into three sections:

Stationery: books, journals, cards.

Jewellery

Accessories: bags, brooches, badges, kits

I think it looks much better, and with items being added regularly the shops will soon be full of gorgeousness (I'm sure that's not a word but seemed to just fit in!)

To celebrate the re-launch there is free UK postage on everything this week from Monday 4th – Monday 11th October.

i do have some cute new makes to show you, i have been working on making some people and animals from my 'Lovable Mini-Dolls' book that i got on my day out with Katy and they have turned out really cute.

Hello folks, i entered Glitterysah's facebook competition and i won :-)

Look what arrived this morning. A package with pink prettyness inside.

I love the note written on the doily, how great is that?
One of Sah's cute purses, they come in all sorts of colours and patterns, this one has a cute little satin bow on the front and satin lining. The ever so generous Sah also gave me a note pad and coloured pencils (i think these would be a great thing for mum's to have in their handbags, emergency fun for kids, there are so many games you can play with just pencil and paper as well as drawing a wee piccy)

OH... Oh....oh what is this inside the purse?

A pink beaded necklace, a funky ring and a super cute bow hair clasp and a badge, i like badges:)

Katy and Lucys Day Out

On Saturday afternoon my sister and I went for a walk, picked up a few bargains and had a bit of a picnic.
The first thing i bought was in a charity shop on Byres Road, it is a mini set of wooden shelves for displaying thimbles on, with a few alterations i think it will be perfect for displaying rings on at craft fairs. £3.00

The next thing that i found was a set of bed sheets in Glorious Clothing in Ruthven Lane just off Byres Road. I love the pattern on these and thought it would make some great bags if they don't end up on the bed! £10.00

They have a co-ordinating spotty pattern on the back and came with two matching pillow cases and a third not so matching pillow case that looks a lot like Cath kidston fabric, more on that next.

How cute is the postcard from Glorious Clothing!

Our picnic, in the botanic gardens we spread out one of the pillow cases to add touch of class to our park bench. Lunch consisted of poppy seed rolls, roule cheese, kabanos, olives and Irn Bru. Yummy :)

It started to rain while we were having lunch but we decided to finish our picnic anyway, a little rain never hurt anyone!

There was a book fair in the park on Saturday, we took a look at that after lunch and Katy got a few books.

We walked home via Great Western Road where we had a look in Caledonia Books, a second hand book shop. I found a couple of books filled with felt creatures and people, they are so cute lots of inspiration there. £6.00 amd £6.50

and I couldn't resist taking a photo of this shelf!

A great day, good food good company and a bit of a spending spree, what more could a girl want?

Introducing Mugdock Makkers Art and Craft Gallery

I would like to introduce you to the Mugdock Makkers Art and Craft Gallery.

I joined the Mugdock Makkers before Christmas last year, the Makkers are a collective of artists and crafters, working across a number of disciplines, all living within 30 miles of the park, providing locally produced art and craft.

The gallery is Located in the Visitor centre in mugdock Park in Glasgow near Milngavie.

Depending on how you come into the park you may see this:
Go through the door and down the stairs and the Gallery is on the right hand side of the courtyard.

Or you may see this: Go through the Archway and we are on the left hand side.

These are our front doors, the gallery is open from 12pm-5 pm in the summer and 11 pm-4 pm in the winter.

Come on in and browse our wares.

You will find: art, Ceramics, Woodwork, Textiles, Glass work and Jewellery.

The staff you meet in the gallery are all Makkers, if you visit at the weekend you can meet a Makker at work, see them give a demonstration or perhaps try a craft yourself.

I hope to be introducing some of the Makkers and their gorgeous products to you soon.

Spotty Bags

I know i was supposed to be introducing you to the Mugdock Makkers gallery but i have been busy making bags.
I was in John Lewis the other day picking up some red gingham fabric, some felt and looking at the Amy Butler Fabrics and the Really nice assistant Helen (i think) (who also sold my mum her sewing machine) opened this magic drawer under the table and pulled out some Amy Butler spotty fabrics that had been miss cut or end of rolls and they were priced down, well in my opinion when things like that happen it's meant to be. so i took them and decided to make a bag.
I had a general idea of how i wanted the bag to look so i set to work on making my pattern, i just roughly drew it on paper and tweaked it as i went along. The first bag turned out well, I am keeping it for myself, i am quite proud of how well the pattern turned out. Is it wrong that i want to keep most of the things i make?

For the next bag i made a few more tweaks to the pattern, and instead of three puffs i made one giant one doubled up with a gorgeous textured green button on it, the button is from a pack of big buttons from BigFish on Etsy she is a super Lady and has the most wonderful buttons.

This bag is for sale in my Folksy shop.

I have the pieces cut to make one more of these bags and some fabric left over, not sure what else to make!

I just don't know what to start with, i have a couple of things that i want to share, after finally getting the sewing machine out to make the cupcake tea cozy, i have been on a sewing mission, making bags.

Then there are the Giant Buttons that i have had especially made by Brian Morris a fellow Makker, that are just yummmy fabulous. I have taken some photos of the Mugdock Makkers Gallery that i am a member of and i want to start introducing you to some of the other talented members as there is such variety of crafts and art in the gallery.

Ok lets start with the buttons and bags.

After making the tea cozy i have been on a bit of a sewing frenzy making bags. The need to make bags all started with the Giant wooden buttons that i had custom made, for anyone else out there who loves buttons you will understand how cool and exciting this was. I have had 6 samples made and i love them all, they are hand turned and not only look amazing but feel great too. They will be appearing in my shops soon on bags and on books and maby i will have some to sell too (not 100% sure about that yet though.)

This one is Laburnum

These have great shapes.

The largest is 9cm Diameter and the smallest is 7cm diameter, and once they arrived i had to make something to put one on so i made a bag.

The outside is a linen and cotton mix from Ikea and the inside is a cream cotton,

I have listed the bag in my Folksy shop so that i am not tempted to use it, i really like it, i think i will have to make a similar one.

I then proceeded to make three more bags, this leafy one with neon felt accent. I also made a plain version of this bag to put another of the buttons on.

Then while looking through my fabric stash i found a bag of samples and they just sang out to me, PATCHWORK BAG patchwork bag and that is what i did.

I love this bag too the colours are really good together considering it was a bag of random samples and i used the whole bag and didn't really do any planning. I'm not sure if this will make into one of my shops or if i will just have to use it.

Tonights Tea Cozy Project

The tea cozy that nearly never was.
It all started when my sister Katy started drinking tea along with my mum and dad. I should probably inform you now that i don't drink tea, i really don't like it i find that it has a metaly taste, maby i have weird taste buds!
Anywhooo Katy started drinking tea and then my dad started to complain that he wasn't getting a refill so I decided to get them a new teapot for Christmas a really big one so they could all have a cup of tea and there would be plenty left for a top up. Although i don't drink tea i found a teapot that was ohhh so very me........ A Giant Cupcake.

Well once i bought a giant teapot i realised that the tea cozy wouldn't fit over it so off i went to get some cupcake fabric to make a tea cozy to match the teapot. Since Christmas the gorgeous teapot has had to get by wrapped in a teatowel, so sad.
I know it's more than 4 months late but look how cool it is. I am so happy with it, i had no pattern I just measured the teapot in all directions and winged itfrom there.

I added a nice mixture of buttons in co-ordinating colours, it is a shame i wont be using it as i really love it now that it is finished!

Crafty Cups / Kits

This is something i have been meaning to make for a long time, Craft Kits for a make it yourself craft experience. I wanted it to be something that kids, teens and adults would like, something for a rainy day to do together or just to make something nice for yourself.

Well here it is, if you are buying it online it will come in a bag and look like this:

It has everything you need to make 2 brooches, felt, stuffing, instructions, templates and......

a bag if bits; buttons, sequins, threads and brooch backs.

The kits come with two colours of felt for your brooches these will be random unless you have a preference.

If you are buying at a craft fair or market it will be a Crafty Cup (they look funky but not so letterbox friendly) they have exactly the same goodies inside.

I have a pyramid of cups all waiting to make their first appearance at the Dennistoun craft fair on Saturday.

Easter Treats Craft Workshop

My Easter Treats workshop at Mugdock Park offered a make and decorate a book day.
This is how we did it:
Collect a pile of paper for the inside of your book
Choose a patterned paper for the front fold those in half
Choose a ribbon to bind them together
Get holes punched in the spine
Thread your ribbon through and tie.
Then find a space round the decorating tables where you could find patterned papers, plain papers, paper punches to make shapes, pre punched shapes, monopoly money (which was a big hit) stickers, sequins, coloured foam, ribbon scissors and glue.

Get stuck in.

This was my first workshop and I wasn't sure what to expect, the weather was awful it was pouring with rain and i thought it might be quiet but the complete opposite happened, there were loads of people. It was a drop in and have a go event, it started off quite nice a few kids with their parents and then all of a sudden everyone arrived one after another and i thought i would have to send people away. the decorating tables were so full there was no room for anyone else to join in and then luckily a few people finished their books.

Then I had the awful thought that i might run out of materials, I didn't and the whole day was a huge success. I had a great time, the kids really seemed to enjoy it and all of the parents seemed happy. All of the creations were excellent, they really liked using the monopoly money!

These two boys who were some of the first to arrive and made great books. This one has a really cool retro look
His big brother made a wonderful under the sea scene with some great hand cut details I was most impressed.
It was fantastic, crazy,messy fun, its a shame I didn't get a photo of how busy it was but I was there myself and i just didn't get the chance, but that's a good thing.

I am looking forward to the next workshop, just need to decide what to make next time, best get my thinking cap on.

I have a few markets and fairs coming u so over the next few days I have been busy making book covers. Here is what I have so far, lots of gorgeous covers now they just need pages and stitching.
(look over there on the right some of my orange bargain fabric from the last post)

This is such a cute fabric and it has made such a nice little book cover, it just needs a little something on the front maby a little piece of knitting!

Well now that I have shared it is back to work.......
there are a tone of pages to cut and loads of stitching to be done.

Todays Charity Shop Find

Went for a bit of a look in a few Charity shops today, i am really hoping that on one of my trips someone will have just dropped off a whole box of buttons just for me.
Alas no buttons today but there was a box of fabric in one shop and look what i got, a gorgeous piece of orange fabric. (75p)
and
this piece of patterned fabric, the colours are great and the patterns are mad, i totally love it. (£1.25)

I have no idea what I'm going to do with them but I'm sure there will be at least a couple of books from them, not sure what else anyone got any ideas?

Me Me Me!

I ran out of pages in my note book so I had the task if making myself a new book, easy you might say as I make lots of book and journals, not so.
This book will probably last for bout 6 months and it will be with me most of the time so I need something that I will still love then and that will look good, using my work , i find is my best advert.

This is what i decided on.

I bought this fabric to make a tea cozy for the teapot I bought for the family for Christmas (the teapot is Cupcake shape) I really loved the fabric so i bought extra. (I still havn't made the tea cozy!)
I have made a lot of padded books recently and they feel really luxurious and you can always take a nap on it if you get tired.

At Christmas my sister and I have a tradition that we started a few years ago, we get each other pyjamas and give them to each other on Christmas Eve. My Christmas Eve PJ's were wrapped up an an absolutely scrummy piece of patent black wallpaper with raised embossed patterns as soon as i had unwrapped my present i knew that i had to reuse the paper, it is way to nice to put in the bin and this seemed like the best thing to do.

This is my new sales book.

I have used bright pink ribbon to stitch this book.

I think i might have to go on a wallpaper hunt and see what other little gems i can find!

New Room Present

My boyfriends Mum has been decorating her room and it is almost finished, i wanted to make her a little something nice to put in her new room.
I'm not sure where the idea for this came from, I decided to try and make a felt bowl/tray to put on the bedside table or drawers, i am planning on getting some potpourri on the way over tonight to put in it.
The room is decorated in different shades of purple and cream so i think it will go nicely.

I am really happy with the way it turned out I think I might make one of these to put on my table at craft fairs, the packs of hair slides will look quite at home in one of these.
I'm thinking of making some to put in the shop so any feedback and your thoughts would be nice.

It's February

Oh dear this wasn't how things were supposed to go this year, it has gotten all the way to February and this is my first blog post of 2010, how did that happen?

What have i been doing? I have made some comic cards and envelopes, the cards have a speech bubble for you to write your own message in; Happy Birthday, Get Well Soon, Joe Stinks! whatever you like and the envelopes are recycled from pages from Annuals.

I have also been making some things for valentines day cards with embossed textured hearts and matching envelopes.

Gift pouches, these can be used to put a piece of jewellery in for valentines, mothers day or for a birthday. I really like these they have turned out really cute so i am already thinking of making more in really fun and funky shapes.

Felt Heart rings, why? Just because i thought they would be fun :)

And these are ceramic button rings, the buttons were made specially by Julia Smith Ceramics, i was so chuffed when the buttons arrived, the colours are just yummy gorgeous and i cant wait to order more.

Julia's work is gorgeous you can see some of it in her Folksy shop.

The Last Market

I had my Last craft market before Christmas today, it was in the Salon just off Byers Road in Glasgow. It was a really quiet day but i cheered myself up by ordering a gorgeous bracelet from Kimberly Armstrong, Kimberly is a glass artist and she had some stunning jewellery on her table (i am wishing now that i had taken a photo to show you!) you can check out her gorgeous glass on her website.

The other highlight of the day was lunchtime when Katy (my sister) came to see me, we had a scrumptious lunch of nachos, chips with Cajun spices and chicken wings. I was so impressed with the nachos that i had to take a picture of them.

They came inside a huge crispy tortilla!

I have been doing an evening class in silversmithing and Wednesday was the last night.
I had an old sovereign ring that i chopped up and recycled, the intention was to make a crown/tiara pendant using the filigree side of the ring.
After leaving the pieces on the desk facing the wrong way i realised that it was pants!

So that is what i turned it into, a Lacy pants pendant. :)

On another note i am having a free UK shipping weekend this weekend from 27th November to 30th November.

Busy busy busy! I have been checking and double checking that I have all of the supplies and equipment for a Halloween brooch making class in ifull Coffee tomorrow. It's going to be some spooky gluey fun with kids, I hope!
This is the packet cover for the kits, I hope to have more themed kits soon a Christmas decoration kit, maby some animals and fruits.

Great Gifts For Guys

I have been working on a range of journals and books for guys.
I have been trawling the charity shops, thrift sores and boot sales looking for board games, annuals, sheet music and anything else that looks like it might make an interesting book cover. I have been busy cutting, sticking and stitching to make the first in the new collection.

Cluedo anyone?
I have used the board and the weapons on the cover, when you open the book you get a nice surprise to find some of the cards and slips from the game.

Cluedo not your game, what about monopoly?
inside this little book you will find cards relating to the piece of the board used for the covers and some money (not real cash! Just the monopoly money, sorry!)

Not a board game kind of person what about comics?

You can find Dennis and friends on the cover and inside these books.

What about a wee tune?

Sheet music covered books, these particular ones are flute music.

I took some samples of these to a women into business networking event where I met a lovely coffee shop owner who wanted sell them from her shop. The entire collection is there at the moment, but i will be making more to sell in my online shop, look out for them arriving soon.

If you are in Glasgow and are passing Charing Cross why not pop into I full coffee and visit my books, while you are there relax with a coffee and if they have the banana bread you should definitely try a piece it is delicious!

Caffeine for the Creative Mind

After reading this flickr post i was inspired to by the book Caffeine for the Creative Mind, it is filled with 250 exercises to wake up your brain. The creative exercises cover design, writing, photography, problem solving, idea kindling and play.
I am going to try and do one exercise each day and keep you updated regularly on how its going. We will see how that goes!
I decided to use the book that I made at the retreat for the exercises, this will keep them all in one place and its a good enough reason for me to keep it for myself?
I started off with the project in the flickr post, i went for a walk with my camera and took lots of photographs of patterns.
The exercise really got me looking at things in a different way, i was surprised at the amount of different patterns on manhole covers. I did get a few funny looks when I was photographing these, crouching down on the pavement next to the main road but I don't care!

While i was out i decided to do another exercise, take ten photographs of things that don't belong, it was supposed to be things around you but i think i will do that another day. I came across quite a few things that didn't belong! (and a few things when i got home when does a hula hoop ever belong on the back of the door, who has been feeding our cherry tree chocolate? and those mints aren't hot why are they arranged on that coaster?)

In this exercise i had to draw a squiggle/line with my "off" hand and then turn it into something sports related with the strong hand. I think it ended up tennis related because the tennis was on!

I still have today's to do so I'm off to make a list of thirty items you would find in a mad scientists lab!

A Grand Day Out

On Wednesday i had a simply super day out with a very good friend of mine, we try to get together whenever we can to catch up. Our get togethers always include food, be it lunch or dinner and we always manage to fit cake in there somewhere!
We went to mugdock park for a walk, in the mud! it was a really nice afternoon but it had been raining heavily during the night, whats a little mud between friends!
The park was lovely and so was the sky, there were some really interesting clouds in the sky, i dont look up nearly enough!
There were some people out doing some archery (that does not sound correct! performing archery?) lets go with having archery lessons. I would love to have a go at this it looked really fun, i bet you have to have pretty strong arms though. I took loads of phtographs of the archers, trees and water.
We had a couple of great burgers in the cafe and some caramel shortcake to keep us going on the walk back to the car.

After the park we went to the west end I should probably mention where we are as that could be the west end of anywhere! We are in Glasgow.
Hunger had us again and we stopped in for some chips and garlic bread, then off for a bit of a charity shop cruise, no excellent bargains but you can't be lucky every day can you?
Before going back to the car we went to an ice cream shop calles 3 steps 2 heaven for some amazing ice cream.
Let me talk you through their amazing 3 steps:
1. choose 2 flavours of ice cream (i chose strawberry and coconut with chocolate drops)
they pop them on a marble slab and start to mix them together
2. choose 2 toppings (i chose hazlenut crunch and white discos, one of the big white chocolate discs with the multi coloured sprinkles.)
they mix this into your ice cream, put it in a tub
3. then choose a sauce (i chose strawberry)
sauce over your ice cream and voila! a huge tub of your own creation.
The nice young man serving me was kind enough to let me photograph and video him make my ice cream.

This was my first visit and it wont be the last, it was amazing, the shop is lovely and the service was great so if you find yourself in Glasgow's west end they are in Cresswell lane just off Byres Road, 3 steps 2 Heaven.
its my boyfriends birthday this mont so i think i will be taking him there for a birthday treat, shhhh dont tell!

The Great Retreat

The UK etsy Retreat in York 2009

My retreat diary, set off from Glasgow on Friday morning with my sister Katy with a car full of crafting things.
Arrive at York and open the boot of the car to see it overflowing with craft supplies and tools, but wait! where is my suitcase??? it must be in the back seat...........AAAAGGGGGGGHHHHHHH
Alas no suitcase, a car filled to the brim and not a thing to wear, no toiletries either!
Better get the directions to the nearest shops, 2 hours later after a trip to tesco for the essentials, clean knickers, socks, pj's, jeans, a few t's and a toothbrush and I am ready for the weekend to start.
Fridays dinner was great, it was in the pub next to the school where the waitress will tell you about the things and stuff they have on the menu and that 'the ice cream used to be Amazing but now its just good'

Saturday morning arrives and I'm feeling good in my new jeans, my crafting started with a bit of needle felting, i finished the dragon that i started making with the wool from the secret swap.
His name is Huxtable and i am keeping him for myself, selfish i know but i like him and he took ages to make.

I bought som buttons from BigFish she has the best buttons, i love buttons.

On saturday afternoon Alibali gave tutorial masterclass on PMC (precious metal clay) I made a silver button and Katy made an & pendant. i stitched my button onto a piece of blue thong to match my top and wore it the rest of the trip.

Unfortunatley i missed the coin purse tutorial by littleblackduck :(

But i did make a little makeup bag with a little help putting in the zip from littleblackduck.

if you have read my blog before you may recognise the fabric by Showpony, yes i finaly got round to making something with it.

I made a matching book too!

On saturday evening very late at night, i made some book covers to bind on Sunday, i didnt get round to binding them!

We didnt just craft though, we ate...

....and went out to play too!

it was a great weekend, it was great to see some of the same lovely faces from last year and meet some new crafty ladies.

It was organised by Debbie yay for Debbie aka tinyisland.

Now i just cant wait for next year!!!!!

Bad Bad Me!

Bad bad me! I haven't blogged in a while and i don't really have a proper excuse because i have had lots of things that i should have blogged.
OK, here we go.....

The journal that i made for the winner of the journal competition, to refresh you memory the winning theme was oriental.
I think this one should be named a hint of oriental.

It has a red cotton fabric cover, cartridge paper pages with shiny black signature covers to make the spine black. It is bound with waxed cotton cord the metal detail on the front was recycled from a piece of jewellery, it also has a page marker with a tassel.

I had a table at the Glasgow Craft Mafia market in mono on Sunday 26th July, this was my first proper craft market so although it was a quiet day it gave me the chance to try out my table display.
I spent the day filling up the table with brooches and hair slides.

The secret swap
Look at the totally amazing goodies I got from my swap person broadstone she has a shop on Etsy where you can see more of her gorgeous bags...........

A gorgeous bag in great colours..... and thats not all........ inside the bag there were not one but 2 bags of wool for felting and some felting needles, i have started to make a felted dragon i will post a piccy of it when it is done.

New Camera

My new Camera arrived yesterday, yay.

I wanted compact that i could pop in my pocket or handbag for those moments when you think 'i wish i had my camera!'

It's a Fuji, i chose it because my other camera is a fuji and i really like it, my mums compact is also a fuji and it takes great photographs.

Made in The Shade

Yesterday i went to made in the shade craft fair in Glasgow with my sister Katy, it was in the Glasgow university Union.

We had a wander round the room looking at all the pretty things and there were lots of pretty things!
There was also a room with a bake sale and the stitch and bitch, this room also had a lucky dip when we got to it a girl had just paid for hers and was opening her bag. She pulled out some neon zips matching threads and what i think was a bag of sequins. Well that was it for me i couldn't get my £1 out of my purse fast enough!

There was also a sunglasses badge in this bag that was still on my jacket when i took this picture. I was so excited about these fantastic goodies that i had to have another....

How great is that!

After the goody bags we went back in to have a second look at some things,. The first thing i bought was a gorgeous piece of fabric from Showpony to match the purple goodies from the goody bag.

My next purchase was a bag from Natalie Farrell i just couldn't leave without it! I also have a Natalie Farrell purse which i love and use all the time, people always comment on it and I'm hoping the bag will be just as popular!

We also bought a clock made from a record for our dad for fathers day, Katy bought a notebook and a button bracelet.

Your Journal, Competition

This competition was inspired by the UK Etsy Challenge from March 2009, the theme was red and Turquoise. I really enjoyed working to this random brief and using colour combinations I wouldn't normally choose, I made a hand bound journal that is now in my Etsy shop, you can see my book and all the other entries in the UK Etsy Challenge Flickr Group.

So your bit of the competition is to, in a few words, give a theme for a journal, this could be random words like pink, button, feather or a theme like sailor use your imagination.

Sent Swap Goodies

I just thought i would show you what i sent in the last secret swap. My swappee was the birch tree this is what she put as her likes and dislikes.

Don't need: jewellery, photos, art prints, bookmarks

Can't have: orange or associated (tangerine, etc) oils or the things themselves
Love: clothes, bath and beauty, toys safe for toddlers, notebooks, bags, toddler clothes

So this is what i sent..

I did a little bit of Flickr stalking, the birch tree has a little girl who's name begins with A, i thought that this would be nice to hang on her door or in her room!

I also made a mini hand bound book, the cover is padded and covered with pink gingham, there are eyelets on the front two plain round and one a flower. It is stitched with black cotton cord.

It just so happened that on the morning i was getting ready to parcel these up and go down to the post office i got a package, it was the bookmarks i had ordered, it was a sign! Before going to the PO i made a bookmark with beads to match the gingham and added this to the package (after taking more pics!)

I have decided to take on the responsibility of organising the next swap, not sure if i have bitten off a little more than i can chew with this but im giving it a go anyhow. I figure that i have been in a few swaps now and its only fair that someone else has a go at organising. Well we will see how this goes, i'll get back to you on that!!!

Another Fantasitc Day

I have spent all of today outside, this morning in the front garden sitting on the steps stitching felt brooches together and trying to take photographs of the birds at the feeder. Every time i turned the camera on they flew away, the little birdies are a bit shy, the pigeons on the other hand are just plain cheeky!
I persevered and managed to snap these;

I couldn't believe how this one turned out.

I think that this one was trying to tell me that the seeds were getting low!

By lunch time there were some strange flowers appearing on the plants...

After lunch the sun had made it's way round to the back garden, i took my felt, threads and buttons out there so i could work at the table.

Thank goodness no one else wanted to come and share the table!
The more room I have the more I just spread myself out!

I did manage to get quite a few brooches sewn together between re-applying the sun cream, getting fresh water and realising i had got a little singed round the edges and going inside to find something not to warm to cover up with.

I have plenty still to stitch, i spent an age yesterday cutting them all out.

Glorious days...

What glorious weather we are having, I have been for a walk, read a beading magazine in the garden and despite smothering myself in sun cream I'm still looking a little frazzled.

The blog giveaway is over I will put all the names in a hat and get someone to draw the winner for me tomorrow.

One more piece of news before I add another layer of sun cream and return to the garden. My local hairdresser Scissors in the City where i got my hair cut recently is now displaying a range of my hair accessories on her cash desk.

Hair accessories will be making an appearance on the website soon.

Secret Swap

What a super day I received my swap in the post today, from Kool Kooky Kreatures.

I got the jiffy bag open and inside i found 2 parcels wrapped in tissue all covered in butterflies, so pretty.
I decided to open the little one first, just as i pulled the tape off i seen a little Kitty keeking out at me, it was a kitty face brooch which i am sure will find its way onto one of my bags.

Filled with excitement i opened the next package as i look in i see a set of pink legs...

those pink legs belonged to a cute little needle felted bear, isn't she cute!
She is mostly pink with purple cheeks and pretty purple eyelashes. She has poseable arms and legs that have tiny pink buttons on them (i love buttons).
I think i will have to keep an eye on her, she has a look that she might get up to some mischief!
I haven't decided on a name for her yet, i need something that captures her mischievous look and her cuteness.
She has found a nice place for herself on my bookcase.

It's Been a Bookmaking Day

I got two notebooks made today, my plan was to time myself making them and time each part of the process. This was my attempt to find the most efficient way to make them and keep the costs down. It didn't go as planned, things kept happening that messed up my times.
